High frequency pulsing solid state laser cutting and engraving of various materials

Grayscale performance

Ordinary mechanical engraving cannot engrave points of different thickness in an economical way, so it does not have a grayscale expression. Laser engraving is to achieve engraving in a dotted manner, which has a natural advantage in grayscale performance. For this reason, grayscale expressions are used as much as possible in the engraving design. This has the advantage of reducing the coloring process and saving costs on the one hand; on the other hand, it enriches the expression methods of engraving and increases the level of graphics. When the user uses it, first fill the graphics with different gray scales (the text must be converted to graphics first), and select the black and white mode for the engraving output. You can try the effects of different dots. The accuracy is generally not more than 500dpi.

wood

1. Logs (unprocessed wood)

Wood is by far the most commonly used laser processing material and is easy to engrave and cut. Light-colored woods such as birch, cherry or maple can be gasified by laser well, so they are more suitable for carving. Each kind of wood has its own characteristics, and some are denser, such as hardwood, which requires greater laser power when engraving or cutting. We recommend that you study the carving characteristics of unfamiliar wood before carving it.

2. Plywood

Sometimes customers may ask you to engrave on plywood. In fact, this is not much different from engraving on wood. It is just a little bit of attention that the depth of the engraving should not be too deep. The edges of the cut plywood will be as black as wood. The key is to see what kind of wood is used to make the plywood.

3. Wood cutting

The depth of wood cutting with laser engraving machine is generally not deep, within 5mm. This is because the power of the laser is relatively small. If cutting at a slower speed, the wood will burn. In the specific operation, you can try to use large-size lenses, and use the method of repeated cutting.

4. Coloring

After the wood is carved, there is generally a feeling of being burned. It has a primitive artistic beauty that matches the color of the wood background. The depth of the color mainly depends on the laser power and the speed of the carving. However, some woods are usually softer, and you cannot change their color no matter what (such as birch). Sometimes customers may ask you to color the finished product. Acrylic paint can be used.

Density Plywood

1. Ordinary density veneer

This type of MDF is the kind of wooden pallet that we often use to make signage liners. The material is high-density board with a thin wood grain on the surface. Lasers can be used to engrave on this type of material, but the engraved patterns are uneven and black in color, and they generally need to be colored. Under normal circumstances, you can learn the appropriate design and use 0.5mm two-color plates for inlay to get better results.

2. Laser dedicated density plywood

This type of density board is specially designed for laser engraving. The engraved pattern has uniform color and has good results without coloring.

3. Clean

After engraving, you can use a damp cloth to clean the surface of the MDF.

4. Coloring

Acrylic paint or alkyd paint can be used. When engraving, the color of the graphics can be set to 60% gray scale to make the bottom surface of the engraving somewhat pitted to improve the adhesion of the color.

Acrylic

1. Acrylic

Acrylic is the most commonly used engraving material second only to wood. It is easy to cut and engrave. There are various shapes and sizes, and relatively low cost. Plexiglass has two production processes: casting and calendering. The laser engraving machine mainly uses the plexiglass produced by casting, because the frosting effect produced by laser engraving is very white, which is in sharp contrast with the original transparent texture. It is produced by calendering. The plexiglass is still transparent after laser engraving and does not have a sufficient contrast effect. Therefore, when purchasing, you should emphasize to the dealer that you want high purity, otherwise the material you bought back may melt during engraving or cutting. Phenomenon.

2. Carving

Under normal circumstances, the plexiglass adopts the method of back carving, which means that it is carved from the front and viewed from the back, which makes the finished product more three-dimensional. When engraving on the back, please mirror the graphics (ie reverse) first, and the engraving speed should be fast and the power should be low. If the power is too high during engraving, uneven stripes will appear on the bottom surface. If you want to engrave deeper, try engraving several times. In the case of back carving, for partial coloring, the coloring should be carved deeper first, and then polished with a flame polishing machine, before the color can be filled. If it is not polished, the color seen from the front will not be uniform.

3. Cutting

Plexiglass is relatively easy to cut. If the customer's requirements are not high, it can be delivered after cutting without flame polishing. The blowing device should be used when cutting to improve the quality of the cut. When cutting plexiglass over 8mm, large-size lenses should be replaced. (Note: The operator must not leave when cutting plexiglass, there may be flames during cutting.)

4. Coloring

Acrylic pigments can be used, other pigments may damage the finish of plexiglass.

Two-color board

1. Two-color board

Two-color plate is a kind of engineering plastic that is composed of two or more layers of colors and is specially used for engraving. The two-color plate can be divided into two categories: mechanical and laser. Some of the mechanical plates can also be used for Laser engraving. The characteristic of the laser engraving board is that the surface color layer is thin, and the whole board is thinner than the mechanical board. When purchasing a two-color board, if you are not sure whether it can be used in a laser machine, you can consult the seller or take a small piece to try first. Our experience is that if the surface color of the board is very thin, laser engraving is generally possible , If the surface color is thicker, you can try engraving twice.

2. Carving

If you are using a laser board, the engraving effect will be very good, with obvious contrast and clear edges. When using a mechanical board with a thinner surface, the engraving effect is not much different from that of a laser board. If you look closely, the edges may not be as clear as the laser board. Users generally don't use the kind of mechanical board with thicker surface, otherwise, the laser power should be adjusted lower, and the engraving can be repeated to clear the bottom surface. The final effect may not be too good. On a two-color board with a large contrast (such as a black and white board), engraving gray-scale images can be designed. After a lot of engraving, the two-color plate itself may be deformed, and it can be leveled by hand after heating with hot water.

3. Cutting

Under normal circumstances, users will ask you to cut the two-color plate well. If you are using a laser plate at this time, you can cut it off after engraving. Pay attention to the speed not to be too slow, do not cut through at one time, do it in three or four times, so that the edge of the cut material is flat and there is no melting mark. When engraving, the power should be just right, not too high to avoid melting marks. If you use a mechanical board, you can only cut it to a depth of 50%, then break it by hand and then smooth the edges with sandpaper. If the user has a mechanical machine, he can cut it off on the mechanical machine first, and then move it to the laser machine for engraving.

4. Clean

After engraving, you can use a damp cloth or alcohol to clean the surface. However, it should be noted that if the laser power is set too high during engraving, it may cause a layer of smoke and dust that is difficult to wipe off the surface of the two-color plate.

5. Coloring

If the user's requirements are not high, the dots can be used to express the different colors in the logo. If you have to paint, you should engrave the painted area deeper. Acrylic paint or alkyd enamel can be used. Other paints may damage the surface finish of the two-color board.

Painted copper plate

1. Painted copper plate

Under normal circumstances, copper cannot be laser engraved. But now there is a material with a special paint film attached to the surface, and the laser can completely vaporize the paint film on the surface, and then expose the bottom copper plate. Usually the manufacturer will polish the copper plate or do a special treatment before painting, so that the exposed area after engraving can have enough smoothness and can be stored for a long time. If the copper surface has not been treated, it is necessary to make a protective film after engraving to avoid oxidation and contamination of the surface over time.

2. Carving

Generally, low power and high speed can be used, and the precision can be set above 500dpi.

3. Clean

After engraving, you can use a damp cloth or alcohol to clean the surface.

4. Coloring

If the user's requirements are not high, you can use dots to express the different colors in the logo. Acrylic paint can be used if it is not necessary to paint. Other paints may damage the surface finish of the copper plate.
