UV Laser Machine for Metal Color Marking

How can we create mesmerizing shifting‑color effects on stainless‑steel or titanium plates? Before answering this question, let’s first talk about the practical value of metal color marking.

Metal color marking has become a common‑place and increasingly vital technology for consumer‑electronic cosmetic components, high‑end hardware accessories, and cultural‑creative gifts.

Screen printing and spray‑painting are prone to paint peeling and flaking off. They also generate considerable chemical pollution, and the applied colors tend to turn dull and grey easily.

RFH Laser’s latest solution is the D9‑355 ultraviolet laser. Ultraviolet laser technology completely abandons the traditional routes of pigment coating and high‑temperature processing. Leveraging its "cold‑light" technical advantages, it enables pure, brilliant colors to “grow” on stainless‑steel surfaces without damaging the base material in any way.

Analysis of the Coloring Principle of RFH D9‑355

Let’s start with our opening‑question: How can the RFH D9‑355 produce mesmerizing shifting‑color visual effects on metal surfaces?

The answer is to form a thin‑film layer on the metal surface, which generates a wide range of distinct colors.

First, the RFH D9‑355 ultraviolet laser, with a wavelength of 354.7 nm and extremely high energy, can directly break the chemical bonds of oxygen (O₂) molecules in the air. It instantly excites and oxidizes chromium and iron elements on the stainless‑steel surface to form an "oxide film".

Then comes the coloring process. In short, the thickness of the film determines the color. This dense and uniform oxide‑film layer interacts with natural light: part of the light reflects off the top surface of the oxide film, while the rest penetrates the film and reflects from the metal substrate. An optical path difference is generated between the two reflected light beams, which results in "thin‑film interference".

Every slight change in the thickness of this oxide film alters the wavelength of light that can be retained, giving rise to colors including yellow, red, violet, blue and green.

Simple as it sounds, controlling this nanoscale oxide film poses a stringent challenge to laser precision. This will be illustrated with practical examples in the following section.

Practical Case Analysis: Different Approaches to Metal Color Marking

As mentioned earlier, the precision of the oxide film determines the final effect of metal color marking. Specifically, color transition, color density and surface flatness serve as key detailed criteria.

Color Transition: Take the Double‑Carp Painting and Colorful Butterfly Painting as examples. Both cases feature rich color gradients. On the carp’s back and the butterfly’s wings, hues shift smoothly from deep blue and royal blue all the way to golden yellow, delivering high saturation with no stray discoloration.

Benefiting from the exceptional beam quality (M²<1.2) and narrow pulse width control (<15ns@30k) of the RuiFengHeng D9‑355 laser, the thickness variation of the oxide film can be precisely controlled within micro‑scale areas, producing gradient effects reminiscent of meticulous traditional Chinese fine‑brush paintings.

Color Density and Surface Flatness: The Christmas Tree artwork is rich in fine details. Dozens of small icons in distinct colors are densely packed within a single frame. Even with maximum pattern density, every color remains clearly distinguishable.
